HANNAH SZENES refused to wear a blindfold when she was executed by a Nazi firing squad, insisting on facing her killers in her final moments.

The young Jewish poet was only 23 when she was captured and tortured after parachuting into Nazi-occupied Europe. She had volunteered for a Special Operations mission to help the resistance rescue Jews during the Holocaust.

Hannah Szenes’ poetry, words and story of resistance are a symbol of hope and light.
