Palestinian National Poet Mahmoud Darwish often wrote of his profound romance with a woman named Rita. A passionate story of love, longing and conflict, these beloved poems symbolize the Palestinian struggle.
Years later, Darwish revealed that 'Rita' was actually a Jewish Israeli woman named Tamar Ben Ami. Despite keeping their relationship a secret, the forbidden romance was sadly torn apart by politics and war.

An advocate for peace and equality, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish broke barriers as the first Palestinian doctor to work in an Israeli hospital.
In 2009, he tragically lost three daughters and a niece when an Israeli tank shelled his home in Gaza. Learning of their deaths while being interviewed live on Israeli TV, Dr Abuelaish's heartbreaking reaction shook the nation and highlighted the human cost of war.
Despite his loss, Abuelaish continued advocating for peace and reconciliation, founding the Daughters for Life Foundation to support girls’ education.
